Alabama Crimson Tide basketball coach Anthony Grant announced today that forward Tony Mitchell has been suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. There is no timetable set for his return.
The decision to suspend Mitchell came after Alabama defeated Ole Miss 69-67 at Coleman Coliseum on Saturday night. Mitchell scored 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor. Grant said the decision to suspend Mitchell was an “accumulation of things.” The decision came as no real surprise to me or anybody else that has watched Mitchell’s uninspired play over the last month.
Obviously, the decision to not start Mitchell on Saturday night was more than just the week of practice like Grant said in postgame Saturday night. Mitchell has struggled mightily over the course of the last month, and it always felt like there was something more going on.
