Archie Goodwin has decided to forego his sophomore year and put his name in the NBA Draft. Goodwin lead the ‘Cats in scoring with a little over 14 points per game. Willie Cauley-Stein and Kyle Wiltjer have decided to return to Kentucky for the 2013-14 season. 2 weeks ago after Kentucky’s season ended at the hands of Robert Morris, Goodwin was quoted saying this: “I don’t think I’m ready to go. If any of us were saying we think we should leave, then we’d all be delusional.” Now here are his comments after making his future plans known: “This is something I’ve dreamed about my entire life and I feel like the opportunity is there for me to play at the next level. I will stay in Lexington to finish my schoolwork this semester before continuing to pursue my dream.” As much as Archie Goodwin needs another year of development at Kentucky, he made a smart business decision. With a weak draft, a ton of incoming guards, and a first round promise is enough for him to go to the NBA. He would have had to fight for a starting spot, and would not have the same impact as this year. The risks of riding the bench and a deeper draft class were too great for Goodwin to stay in Lexington another season. Goodwin has yet to sign an agent, leaving the door open for him to return to Kentucky. Kyle Wiltjer took to his Twitter account last night to shoot down any transfer rumors. He proclaimed his love for the coaches, UK, and the Big Blue Nation. He said the thought of transferring never crossed his mind. Here are his comments after saying he would return next season: “I’m so excited about the possibilities of next season. I love Coach Cal and the staff, the University of Kentucky and the BBN.” Willie Cauley-Stein was the most likely to leave for the NBA, but has made the decision to return to the ‘Cats as well. Despite the fact he was a projected 1st round pick, Cauley-Stein will join the monster 2013 recruiting class in Lexington. Here’s Cauley-Stein’s comments after his decision to return: “I’m looking forward to continuing to develop as an all-around player.” Archie Goodwin’s decision to leave Kentucky does not surprise me, I’ve always thought he had one foot in the NBA since arriving on campus. I wish him luck as he makes the next step, and hope he falls into a great organization that will allow him to grow and develop under their guidance. I’m more than excited to have Willie Cauley-Stein and Kyle Wiltjer back in blue next season. On top of the depth, they are great kids and I look forward to watching them become better basketball players in the next year. As for the futures of Alex Poythress and Nerlens Noel, they will be addressed at a later date.
