ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- John Beilein isn't giving up on Trey Burke just yet.
A day after Burke's father took to the Internet to contradict reports that Michigan's freshman point guard has decided to enter the NBA draft, Beilein did the same thing on Thursday.
In his weekly blog on Michigan's official website, Beilein took pains to deny Wednesday's published reports that Burke was definitely going pro.
"I would like to note that Wednesday's reports of Trey Burke's decision to enter the NBA draft were premature," Beilein wrote. "My coaching staff and I have met with Trey and his parents several times over the past two weeks. Collectively, we have gathered and shared with each of them some necessary information that we feel will help Trey make the most informed decision for his future."
Burke has until next Tuesday to make a final decision. He stepped into the starting point-guard position after Darius Morris left early a year ago. Morris has spent most of his first NBA season moving between the D-League and the end of the Los Angeles Lakers bench, and has been one of the people that Burke has consulted for advice.
Burke greatly exceeded expectations, leading Michigan in points, minutes played, assists, steals and even blocked shots as the Wolverines tied Michigan State and Ohio State for the Big Ten regular-season title.
But he struggled badly in Michigan's Big Ten tournament loss to Ohio State and again in their round-of-64 defeat by Ohio in the NCAA tournament.
