URI West Virginia men’s basketball head coach Bob Huggins added another member to his 2013 recruiting class this week. Jonathan Holton, a 6-foot-9 power forward who was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference all-rookie team in 2012, has experience playing for Rhode Island and Palm Beach State Community College. While at URI, Holton averaged 10.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. His future came into question when he was arrested after his freshman season in March 2012 following two charges of video voyeurism. Holton allegedly videotaped consensual sex with two students. He then allegedly later put the material on Facebook, much to the disapproval of those involved. Two days following Holton’s arrest, police found out that a computer in his possession was reported stolen in a dorm at URI following the whole incident. In his lone season at URI, Holton started 26 games and was fourth in the A-10 in rebounding. At Palm Beach State Community College, he averaged 19 points and 18 rebounds. While this move could play out well for the Mountaineers, Holton’s track record may not win over many fans. He still believes he can be a good fit for Huggins and WVU, however. “I chose West Virginia because it was the best spot for me in that they needed needed a guy with energy who can rebound and score the right way,” he told SNY.tv. “I have a little experience under my belt. I averaged 19 points and 18 rebounds last year. I’m a huge fan of coach Huggins, how he runs his program and I feel he can help me get to the next level where I want to go.” Here’s some news about incoming hoops recruit Jonathan Holton #WVU wvgazette.com/Sports/2013050… — Ty Braenovich (@Tydog1) May 6, 2013 Jonathan Holton tells @snytv he also considered Memphis, Maryland and Southern Miss before picking West Va. — Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria) May 5, 2013 According to his instagram, JUCO PF Jonathan Holton has committed to #WVU twitter.com/MattAllevato/s… — Keenan Cummings (@rivalskeenan) May 5, 2013
