Former Indiana and Texas Tech head coach Bobby Knight once had one of the most incredible and knowledgable basketball minds around. Through age and sure attrition, Knight has lost a little bit as he’s gotten older, but ESPN still chooses to use him as an announcer during the college basketball season. In the video, the ref blew a call during the final seconds of the Kentucky vs Vanderbilt game.  After blowing an 18 point lead, Kentucky Freshman Nerlens Noel made a bucket with 17.6 left that should have been waived off because the shot clock had expired.  At that point Kentucky went up 60-55. After Vanderbilt came down and hit a three with 7.6 seconds left, a timeout was called, and ESPN play by-play man Rece Davis gave Knight the opportunity to explain what just happened and what the ref missed. Instead of explaining the situation and Vanderbilt’s options, the 72-year-old Knight, stumbled into an embarrassing rant about why the clock was wrong, and needed Davis to talk him through it. Knight: “That 17.3 was up there and the zero was on the bottom. I don’t know what that meant.” Davis: “The zero was the shot clock. Knight: “What was the 17.3?” Davis: “Game clock. What was remaining in the half.” Knight: Ok, well … Bob Knight is 3rd all time in Division 1 history in wins.  To forget and not be able to tell the difference between the game and the shot clock. Maybe he’ll stop being mean now.
