Tyus Jones is ranked #2 overall in the Class of 2014, and #1 at his position. With Kentucky head coach John Calipari in the stands, Jones scored 19 points and lead his Apple Valley (MN) team to an 81-67 win in the first round of the state tournament. Here is Tyus’ remarks after the win: “I just take it in stride, just go with it and try to block out all the extra stuff that’s off the court,” Jones said. “I try to focus on what we got to do to win.” “You always go into it wanting to win,” he said. “That’s the most important thing. And we came out with the ‘W’, so I can’t complain.” I’ve always tied Tyus Jones as going to Duke, but recruiting situations are always such a fluid situation. Jones probably will not make his decision until the spring signing period of 2014, so there is a lot of time for things to change. Jones is good friends with the #1 overall player in the 2014 class, Jahlil Okafor. Okafor is a Kentucky recruit as well. The duo has been rumored to be a packaged deal to whichever school they decide on. On Friday, John Calipari was in New York City to watch 2014 shooting guard Isaiah Whitehead. Whitehead is 6’4” 195 lbs. with a great shot and exceptional speed. He is the 9th ranked shooting guard in the class per 247sports, and he is regarded as the best player from the state of New York in the class. Calipari and Co. have some early stiff competition from Syracuse, Louisville, and Florida for Whitehead’s services.
