Kevin Ware is officially ready to get back in the game.
Louisville head coach Rick Pitino says that the junior guard, who suffered a horrific broken leg during the Cardinals' Elite Eight win over Duke on March 31, has been medically cleared to practice just six months removed from the injury.
"He has a clean bill of health," Pitino said, via the Courier-Journal. "He can play all-out at the end of the month."
"Kevin's last X-ray ... he's perfectly healed. He's over it. Now he starts his workout to get back on the basketball court -- to move like a basketball player would move."
Though he has been cleared physically, Pitino says Ware still may have work to do to become mentally ready to return to game action.
The Cardinals kicked off their season with the Red & White scrimmage last Saturday, and their national championship defense begins in earnest when they open the regular season against College of Charleston on Nov. 9.

Injuries may have derailed former Louisville guard Mike Marra’s 2012-2013 season, but he’s clearly still proud of what his team accomplished in his absence. Marra got one of the larger tattoos we’ve ever seen on his rib cage to commemorate the Cardinals’ 2013 national championship run. Even cooler – the tattoo artist was his brother, Rob. Rib piece is done! Thanks to the...
Photo: Kelly Kline/Under Armour It’s been pretty well noted that the front-court was a major focus for Rick Pitino and his staff in the 2014 class. Louisville currently has commitments from forward Jaylen Johnson, center Chinanu Onuaku and is in five star forward Trey Lyles’ final two. Although the staff appears to have addressed the needs in 2014, they’re still targeting big...
The tattoo that Rick Pitino received after Louisville won’t the national championship received quite a bit of attention. Call me crazy, but Coach Pitino doesn’t exactly seem like a “tattoo guy,” however that didn’t stop him from sticking with his commitment of getting the champ stamp.
I hate to break it to you Rick, but I think one of your former players has outdone you...
During his free time, Louisville senior guard Russ Smith has been interning for WHAS11. When you’re the leading scorer on the defending national championship team, it’s hard to unnoticed when you’re working behind the scenes.
Russ has been spotted on the sideline of UofL football games doing camera work for the Louisville ABC affiliate and also helping out with some of the...
Six month ago to this exact day, the University of Louisville men’s basketball program won their first national championship in 27 years. It’s hard to believe that it’s been six months. Part of me feels like it was ten years ago and another part of me feels like it was last week.
We’re all confident in this year’s team for good reason. Rick Pitino has a squad that could...
The Louisville Cardinals are breaking out a set of new, matte white football helmets for the Cards' Thursday night showdown against Rutgers.
Pictured above is a pretty awesome new tattoo sported by former Louisville guard Mike Marra that commemorates the Cardinals 2012-2013 National Championship run. The detailed tat was actually drawn and inked by Marra’s brother, who is clearly pretty talented.

Maybe it’s just me, but I thought there was something a little different about Charlie Strong during his press conference on Monday afternoon. He seemed more upbeat and excited than usual. Having a chance to show off his team to a national audience on Thursday night appears to be something that Coach Strong has been waiting for.
“National TV is big for us. It’ll give the...
University of Louisville forward Chane Behanan started his junior season with a ton of promise on Saturday, amassing 25 points and 13 rebounds in the first Red-White scrimmage of the season. Cardinal Authority has the latest on Behanan and what is different for the power forward this season.
One thing that determines whether or not your football program is considered elite is the amount of depth you have at key positions. For Louisville football, that depth is certainly there at the running back position.
The depth at running back was something to be counted on even before the addition of Auburn transfer Michael Dyer. Dominique Brown and Senorise Perry both have...
Louisville’s top red-zone target, DeVante Parker, has been listed as day-to-day, since going down with a shoulder injury in the first quarter against Temple on Saturday. Charlie Strong told the media that the training staff would continue to give Parker the necessary treatment throughout the week and that he’d be a game time decision on Thursday.
As of Monday, I think most folks...

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-1) will have their work cut out for them on Thursday night as they play against the No. 8 ranked Lousivlle Cardinals. (5-0)
Since an opening week loss, Rutgers has strung together four consecutive wins including a thrilling 55-52 win over SMU last week. Meanwhile little has stood in the way of Louisville thus...
Despite being undefeated and clearly dominating the first five games on their schedule, the Louisville football program has recently dropped in both major polls.
Some would speculate that the Cards haven’t been as dominant as they needed to be against a weak schedule, but when you’ve outscored your opponents 127-3 in the first half, that is clearly dominant.
Only time will tell, but as of this point, Thursday’s game against Rutgers will be the biggest one on the schedule for Charlie Strong and the Louisville Cardinals this season. Rutgers appears to be the best overall team on the schedule and with the game being played on a Thursday night; the spotlight will be all over the No. 8 ranked Cardinals.
One storyline that I’m surprised...
The 8th-ranked Louisville Cardinals welcome Rutgers for a nationally televised Thursday night contest at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. U of L is looking to become bowl eligible with a victory tonight.
