To be sure, Colorado doesn’t exactly have a sterling history with roundball. They’ve been mired in mediocrity in recent memory, with the exception of the tenure of current NBA guard Chauncey Billups’ on campus. The tide may be turning in Colorado, as they have a good young head coach in Tad Boyle, a new practice facility just opened, and the current staff is getting it done on the recruiting trail in a way that perhaps hasn’t ever happened. Tonight, Colorado landed their second commitment from a Top 100 prospect in the Class of 2012, 6′-7″ combo forward Xavier Johnson of Mater Dei (CA), according to Josh Gershon of Scout.com.
The commitment of Johnson comes on the heels of Detroit native Chris Jenkins, who pledged yesterday after visiting campus. Johnson tripped to Boulder, CO, a few weeks ago, taking in the rivalry football game between Colorado State and Colorado. Johnson is the #75 ranked recruit in the Class of 2012.
