D.J. Stephens cordially invited Keith Appling to his block party — and Appling accepted.
Stephens showed off an incredible vertical leap on his first-half block of Appling. Stephens is just 6-foot-5, but he averaged 2.44 blocks per game in 2012-13. The Memphis guard/forward has three blocks in the first half against the Spartans.
Check out Stephens’ fingertips rejection of Appling in the animation below.

Michigan State guard Keith Appling is confident the shoulder injury that knocked him out of Saturday's victory against Memphis won't stop him from playing in the NCAA tournament's round of 16.
Appling hurt his right shoulder with 8:35 left in the Spartans' 70-48 win. He left the court about a minute later, and didn't play again.

When Keith Appling plays well, Michigan State usually wins.
The same is true for Joe Jackson and Memphis.
On Saturday, one of the junior point guards and his team will advance to the round of 16 when the third-seeded Spartans (26-8) face the sixth-seeded Tigers (31-4).
''Whenever you got two good quarterbacks, it's pivotal,'' Spartans coach Tom Izzo said Friday...
We’re in the thick of perhaps the greatest four day stretch of sports all year. That being the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament. (Those games played earlier in the week will always be “play in” games to me.) So, that means it’s time to get hit with all the interesting tidbits about players family, childhoods, upbringings and sorts of off the court stuff. Friday...
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. Boys will be boys, and Michigan State coach Tom Izzo doesnt mind rough-housing between his players if the confrontation serves a purpose.
Center Derrick Nix and point guard Keith Appling, two of his tri-captains and best friends since Detroit Pershing High, got into a shouting match and towel-slapping incident Saturday during a timeout with 12:45 remaining in...
Memphis' resident jump-man D.J. Stephens would like to formally invite the Michigan State Spartans to his block party.
In another basketball universe, one where ACLs stay intact, Maryland and Michigan State are seeded first and second instead of fourth and fifth.
One can only imagine what a game it would be if all the players in dress clothes were wearing uniforms instead when the Terrapins and Spartans meet Monday in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
''It would be interesting to...
Michigan State junior Keith Appling and sophomore Branden Dawson speak after the Spartans win over Valparaiso.
Welcome to the Fallout - Saturday edition.
There's Battle lines being drawn.
Alabama officially names Bill Battle as its new athletic director. (al.com)
Obligatory Johnny Manziel item of the day.
Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel's spring break gets covered by TMZ.com. which I hear is like Deadspin for Hollywood, or something like that.
In a heated battle with Memphis, the Michigan State Spartans got into a towel fight during a timeout. Keith Appling and Derrick Nix were not happy with each other and started throwing towels back and forth and had to be restrained in the huddle. The two went to high school together, so obviously this wasn’t anything personal. As Jalen Rose said on Twitter:
Since his first year as head coach at Michigan State, Mark Dantonio has built a solid pipeline to Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller High School. On Thursday night, Dantonio reached back to the Southwest Ohio power extending an offer to FOXSportsNEXT.com four-star outside linebacker Sam Hubbard.
Senior Derrick Nix had a career high 15 rebounds and added 23 points to lead Michigan State past the Valparaiso Crusaders on Thursday afternoon at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Keith Appling had 15 points while Big Ten Freshman Player of the Year Gary Harris added 10 points. To be clear, this game was never [...]
