Just by looking at the stat sheet, it’s hard to get a feel for just how important freshman guard Dominic Artis is to the Oregon Ducks.
On the year, Artis is averaging 8.4 points, 3.3 assists and is shooting just 33% from the field. The numbers show that he is a solid contributor for Dana Altman’s team, but not much more.
Artis, a 6-foot-1 point guard, has missed nine games this year with a foot injury. Without Artis, Oregon is just 5-4, but with him they’re 23-4.
As important as he is for the Ducks, recently they’ve played well even without much production from Artis. He played 18-minutes scoring zero points on 0-for-2 shooting in Oregon’s 74-55 win over St. Louis in the third round.
There is just something about him being there that makes Oregon a better team.
