NEW ORLEANS - MARCH 20: Coach John Calipari of the Kentucky Wildcats talks to his team during the second round of the 2010 NCAA men's basketball tournament at the New Orleans Arena on March 20, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Dave Martin/Getty Images)
The recruiting world is on fire today, so I’ll start with some in-state news. After leading Madison Central to their first Kentucky state title, Dominique Hawkins was officially on the radar of one John Calipari. Calipari saw 3 0f the 4 tournament games, while assistant coach Orlando Antigua went to them all and stayed long after the final buzzer to watch the trophy presentation. Before the tournament, Hawkins had only a couple of mid-major offers from in state schools like Morehead State and Western Kentucky. He received a walk-on offer from Rick Pitino and Louisville, but stated he was not walking on to any school. It seemed as if it was just a matter of time before Hawkins would be named Mr. Basketball in the state of Kentucky, but would he get his coveted scholarship offer from the Wildcats? The dream may be coming true for the kid from Richmond. Here is a former teammate of Hawkins on his Twitter account: Hawkins will be a 4-year player for the Wildcats, and his eventual commitment would also lead to speculation about next year’s roster situation. If you haven’t, check out my article that I have posted detailing the scenarios. With the addition of Hawkins and possibly adding one more, that means some players are leaving in some way. Who it is, and whether they are going to the NBA or transferring is yet to be seen. I would look for confirmation about Hawkins’ scholarship sometime tomorrow. He’s made it clear that he is waiting on UK, and that’s it.
