Duke picked up its first commitment for the class of 2013 on Monday night when DeSoto’s (TX) Matt Jones verbally pledged to join the Blue Devils through Twitter. Jones, a 6-4 two-guard, is known for his deadly shooting touch, especially from the perimeter. A top-25 recruit, Jones’ AAU teammate Julius Randle is rated as SLAM’s 2nd best junior in America. Will he also end up playing for coach Mike Krzyzewski? — they are recruiting him. Either way, Jones is a huge gain for Duke and a high profile prospect.
