Florida State basketball coaches were at one point hoping to have Andrew Wiggins and Xavier Rathan-Mayes two of the nation's top recruits in the lineup this season. But Wiggins opted in May to go to Kansas. And Rathan-Mayes, who had signed with Florida State, was declared ineligible by the NCAA Clearinghouse on Monday. Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton confirmed that Rathan-Mayes would not be able to suit up in 2013-14. "Following a review by the NCAA Eligibility Center, it was determined that some of the coursework Xavier completed during his high school enrollment could not be used to satisfy NCAA Division I initial-eligibility requirements," a statement from Florida State said. "The NCAA has allowed Xavier to enroll immediately at Florida State and receive athletics scholarship, however, he will not be permitted to practice or compete during his first year of enrollment."
