It is hard, really hard to move past a big victory, especially one that comes against your arch rival, but that is exactly what Duke has to do starting Saturday.

The Blue Devils last second victory over North Carolina, as exciting as it was needs to be short lived because Duke still has work to do. They have yet to play consistently good basketball for most of the year, especially of late.

And as great as rivalry wins are they have a way of zapping a team's focus afterwards.

Duke returns home for round two against Maryland Saturday. Cameron Indoor Stadium, which is usually the one place even in down years where the Blue Devils can put together wins, has been anything but the intimidating mecca it has been in years past.

Duke has lost its last two ACC home games to Florida State and Miami and played a number of close games. Consistency is often sighted as thing that the Blue Devils are missing. They've also been without a go-to-guy and their defense has been suspect for most of the season.

This isn't a typical Duke team.

But against North Carolina the Blue Devils showed resiliency in the face of adversity. They were able to fight to stay in a game where they were facing a double digit deficit for most of the second half and won it on Austin Rivers' last second shot.

Rivers scored 29 points, the most a Duke freshman has ever scored in game against the Tar Heels. Rivers showed he can be the Blue Devils' go-to-guy even though he is a freshman.

Now that doesn't mean he is going to be able to do this every game. He still needs to play within himself and not force the issue when he doesn't have to, but he can't go long periods where he does nothing. Like it or not Duke needs Rivers.

Duke also needs Mason Plumlee to step up again. He has been quiet in the last few games and was completely out played by Miami's Reggie Johnson and had his hands full against North Carolina's front court.

If he is going to be an elite big man then he, like Rivers can disappear for large stretches of a game or entire games.

The momentum that the Blue Devils got from the win over North Carolina has rippled across the fan base who was beginning to show signs of doubt in this team's ability. Duke students flocked to the quad and celebrated their team's victory and were out in force to greet the team when they arrived back in Durham.

That same kind of excitement needs to be there against Maryland on Saturday. Duke needs to show the ability to bounce back from a big win with another win, and a convincing win at Cameron is long over due.

Maryland isn't a great team, but they are certainly a team that can beat Duke if they do not play focused and hard. Terrell Stoglin is a major weapon and will test the Blue Devils' suspect defense.

In the last meeting Duke pulled of a 13 point victory after a relatively close first half. In that game Mason Plumlee had his way against the smaller Terapins, but the Terps got 16 out of Stoglin and recently freshman center Alex Len has been playing much more and much better in the post.

Duke needs to show it can defend its home court and can certainly get some help from the Cameron Crazies showing up in force and being loud.

The team and fans alike cannot get complacent because Duke beat North Carolina. As great as that game was, and as important as that win was if the Blue Devils are to have the kind of season they want they have to forget and not play basking in the glory of one win.

Mike Krzyzewski knows this and most Duke fans know that as special and wonderful a win over North Carolina is, they are short lived and have to be.
