After a poor start in the Big East (1-4), Georgetown ripped off eight wins in a row to reemerge near the top of the country's toughest conference.

That eight game winning streak came to end on February 16th and over the course of the past week or so, things have taken a serious hit moving forward.

The Hoyas have lost two of their last three games; most recently a Wednesday night loss at the hands of Cincinnati.

The loss to the Bearcats drops Georgetown to 10-6 within the Big East with two games remaining (Syracuse, at Cincinnati). The Hoyas remain in the hunt for a double-bye in the Big East tournament, but the loss to Cincy wasn't the only thing that weakened their chances moving forward.

While reaching for a loose ball mid-way through the second half, senior guard Chris Wright broke his left hand. The loss is a major blow for the Hoyas.

Paired in the back-court with the team's leading scorer, Austin Freeman, the duo has formed one of the Big East's most elite combos. Wright, who averages 13.1 ppg, had been on fire as of recent, averaging just under 22-points in his last three contests.

After initially leaving the game, Wright received medical attention and had his left hand wrapped up. Just 30 seconds later, Wright returned to the lineup, but was in obvious pain. Play had to be stopped and Wright left the game for good.

First thoughts were that Wright was going to be able to play through the injury that was sustained to his non-shooting hand, but further tests left that decision up in the air.

Following last night's injury, Wright and Georgetown head coach John Thompson III have no timetable for his return and the senior is listed as "out indefinitely."

However, Washington Post reporter Tarik El-Bashir has tweeted that Georgetown does expect to have Wright back this season. Cindy Boren, also a reporter from the Washington Post, has released the news that Wright has had surgery on the broken hand and the Hoyas hope for a return as the season continues.

This morning's recent news is reassuring for Hoya fans as hopes for a Big East and NCAA Tournament run still hang in the balance.

Georgetown is currently listed as a 3-seed in Joe Lunardi's Bracketology (2/21). The Hoyas will host Syracuse on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 12:00pm ET.
