The Kennel ( Photo credit: Shawn Toner – Explosive Illusions Photography)   The Gonzaga basketball season schedule is out and it is disappointing to say the least. Gonzaga traditionally plays a very difficult if not one of most difficult non-conference schedule each and every year. This year is different. The Zags are in one of the best preseason tournaments in the Maui Invitational, but outside of Kansas State and Memphis they lack the nonconference depth they have had in years past. Here is a look at the 2013-2014 schedule   October 25th    vs. Simon Fraser University November 9th vs. Bryant November 11th vs. Colorado State November 17th vs. Oakland November 21st vs. Washington State November 25th      vs. Dayton (Maui Invitational can also play Baylor, Minnesota, Syracuse, Arkansas, Chaminade and Cal) December 1st vs. Coppin State December 7th vs. New Mexico State December 10th at West Virginia December 14th vs. University of South Alabama (Battle in Seattle) December 21st at Kansas State December 28th vs. Santa Clara December 30th vs. San Francisco January 2nd vs. Saint Mary’s January 4th vs. Pacific January 9th at Portland January 16th at Pepperdine January 18th at Loyola Marymount January 23rd vs. San Diego January 25th vs. BYU January 30th at Santa Clara February 1st at San Francisco February 5th vs. Portland February 8th at Memphis (College game day) February 13th vs. Pepperdine February 15th vs. Loyola Marymount February 20th at BYU February 22nd at San Diego February 27th at Pacific March 1st at Saint Mary’s Gonzaga does have some tough match-ups as always but this schedule lacks the depth it has in years past. Outside of the Maui tournament, at Kansas State and at Memphis will be the Zags hardest match-ups. Kansas State has been a solid program for some time now and they are the reigning Big 12 champions. Former Illinois coach Bruce Weber is entering his second season with the Wildcats and always puts a good product on the court. Memphis went 31-5 last season and had a 6 seed in the tournament.  As a power in the American Athletic Conference Memphis has given Gonzaga fits for years now. They should be ranked inside the top 20 and their best player Joe Jackson is still around. Look for the college game day game to be a memorable one. Past Maui, Kansas State and Memphis; other notable games include Colorado State and Washington State. Colorado State was an 8 seed in the tournament last season, but after losing their top 5 scores, they will have a completely different squad. Washington State is always a tough game for the bulldogs. They are the Zags big in state rival and seem no matter what team they have to give them a game.  Washington State did lose their best player in Brock Motum, but still have second leading scorer in Royce Woolridge and starting point guard DaVonte Lacy. Gonzaga will definitely have to go through their non-conference without too many losses. If they can find a way to make it deep in Maui as well as possible wins over Kansas State or Memphis, they may be able to put together a decent non-conference schedule. Their big match-ups this season will be close to must wins without the advantage of playing a deep schedule. Take Our Poll
