Robert Sacre and Gonzaga are one win away from the NCAA Tournament.
All season it looked like Gonzaga may miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time in recent history, but the Zags have responded with an eight game winning streak that has them in the WCC Conference Tournament Final.
Meanwhile, Saint Marys was anointed the team to beat in the WCC with Gonzaga’s struggles, but now the Gaels must face the Zags in a one game, winner take all, championship game. It’s likely that both teams could still get into the field, with the loser locking down an at large bid, but nothing is guaranteed.
Saint Marys seemed to be in cruise control before dropping three straight to San Diego, Utah State, and Gonzaga. Outside of a win over Gonzaga, the best thing on the Gaels resume might be a one point loss to BYU. In this season where the bubble is extremely weak, that could be enough. Even if it is, the safest route is to win tonight and assure themselves a bid.
