In the first half, Purdue couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn and in the second half, Purdue couldn’t get the defensive stops it needed. This amounted to Indiana snapping a five game losing streak to Purdue and handing Purdue just its third loss in Mackey Arena in the last two years.
Purdue played Carroll and Marcius on Cody Zeller and each of the Boilermaker bigs got into early foul trouble. Playing a small lineup for much of the game, the Boilermakers were outrebounded 52-35.
Getting killed on the boards and shooting a horrible 29.6% of field goals are two of the three reasons why Purdue lost against their hated rivals. Another reason is that Indiana found its way to the free throw line and made 29 of 35 of their free throw opportunities.
