Jarnell Stokes' first week at Tennessee was full of new experiences. There were conditioning programs, film study, his first attempts to play sound defense and the challenges of finding his way around campus. And don't forget the thrilling debut to his collegiate basketball career against No. 2 Kentucky. Ranked among the top 25 prospects in the nation for 2012 by multiple recruiting services, Stokes signed with Tennessee on Dec. 23. He played in his first game, a 65-62 loss to the Wildcats on Saturday, just five days after his first practice at Tennessee and a week after his 18th birthday. Even with little knowledge of the playbook, the 6-foot-8, 250-pound power forward finished 4 of 5 from the field and had nine points and four rebounds in 17 minutes.

Freshman Jarnell Stokes on fire for Vols

On paper, the first half of the season and the first part of conference play haven't been kind to Tennessee. The Volunteers, two years removed from a trip to the Elite Eight, are 8-9 overall and 1-2 in SEC play after Saturday's 65-62 loss to Kentucky, their third straight in the heated rivalry. Yet Tennessee had something to feel good about in a game that, considering the...

Jarnell Stokes jumps head long into Vols' lineup

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Jarnell Stokes' first week at Tennessee was full of new experiences. There were conditioning programs, film study, his first attempts to play sound defense and the challenges of finding his way around campus. 5 For Sunday: Stokes, Tennessee give Kentucky A Scare

A win is a win I guess, but goodness enough with the close games already. The Cats survive a scare from the Vols 65-62. Jarnell Stokes was a dominating factor down low for Tennessee. After only having 4 practices with the team. He proved he was ready to play on this level. If it wasn’t for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will to win and his great play yesterday, there is no way Kentucky...

Tennessee Football: Dooley Improves Staff But Will It Translate To Wins?

Call me a Dool-Aid drinker, but in my opinion it's hard not to feel pretty good about the direction of the football program based on Derek Dooley's off-season hires. Sure, there have been 6 coaches leave for other positions, but considering the Vols were 5 and 7 last year including a loss to Kentucky is that really such a bad thing? Is the staff that lost to Kentucky and...

WBN Weekend Wrap Up: The Kentucky Wildcats Handle the Orange

The Dynamic Duo Strike Again I don’t think anyone was fooled by the 10 point spread the guys in Vegas had when the Cats rolled into Knoxville. Everybody knew this would be a fight. The Vols had improved recently by beating Florida by 20 at home and then barely losing to Mississippi State by four on the road. The Cats would be in yet another struggle, but how would they respond...
