Even though Jereme Richmond appeared to hit rock bottom in August when he was charged with beating a woman and threatening her with a gun, the former Illinois guard managed to sink further into his downward spiral this week.
Richmond returned to jail Friday after a judge learned he tested positive for marijuana on Oct. 5 while out on bond. The judge set bond at $100,000, but if Richmond will be placed on 24-hour curfew and be allowed to leave home only to train even if he manages to post bond.
The latest episode continues the free fall Richmond has experienced since his ill-fated decision to leave Illinois against the advice of his coaches after a pedestrian freshman season in which he averaged 7.6 points per game in 22.1 minutes. The former McDonald's All-American missed several workouts with NBA teams and went unselected in June's draft, much to the chagrin of this uncle, who called NBA executives "fools" for passing on his nephew.
