NEW ORLEANS - MARCH 20: Coach John Calipari of the Kentucky Wildcats talks to his team during the second round of the 2010 NCAA men's basketball tournament at the New Orleans Arena on March 20, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Dave Martin/Getty Images)
John Calipari is clearly excited for this upcoming season. With so much talent returning from a team that went to the finals of the NCAA Tournament, and a number of blue chip freshmen coming in, its no wonder that he’s clearly more relaxed than normal this early in the year. After this afternoon’s blowout win over French pro club Champagne Châlons-Reims, Calipari took to Twitter, and sent a few messages that are sure to get any Wildcats fan excited. Proud of our guys. My job is to empower them to make it their team. Today showed that we are farther along than any team I’ve had in awhile. — John Calipari (@UKCoachCalipari) August 11, 2014 Calipari’s recent teams have had some growing pains, and he will occasionally downplay expectations, or say that his young team needs to grow and learn to play together. That doesn’t seem to be the case this season. Coach Calipari also made a joke about his turn as ESPNU cameraman, asking if he should hand over the reigns to assistant coach Kenny Payne more often. Kenny did a better job than I would have. Should I try this during the season? I had fun today — John Calipari (@UKCoachCalipari) August 11, 2014 Football season is still weeks away, but Kentucky fans already have their eyes on another basketball title. Kentucky has four more scrimmages in the Bahamas over the next few weeks, and then kick off the season on October 17 with Big Blue Madness.
