The junior guard averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 assists in Wisconsin’s two wins last week
MADISON, Wis. – Coming off a dominant performance in Wisconsin’s win over No. 1 Ohio State, Wisconsin’s Jordan Taylor was named Big Ten Player of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced on Monday.
Taylor claims the first Big Ten Player of the Week honor of his career after helping the Badgers pick up a road win at Iowa and record the school’s second-ever win over the AP No. 1 team. The junior averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists, while playing an average of 41.5 minutes per game in the two wins last week.
Taylor played 44 minutes at Iowa scoring 16 points with four rebounds and eight assists, while turning it over just two times. Taylor scored or assisted on 17 of UW’s final 19 points in the comeback win. Then in Saturday’s win over Ohio State, Taylor led all scorers with 27 points while adding four rebounds and seven assists to just one turnover in the win over No. 1 Ohio State. Taylor knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers and scored 21 of his 27 points in the second half when UW erased a 15-point deficit.
During UW’s 30-8 run, Taylor scored or assisted 26 of those points by scoring 18 himself and using three assists to add another eight points. Taylor is just the second player in the last 14 years (since 1996-97) to post 27 points and seven assists vs. the AP No. 1 team (Dywane Wade also reached those totals in 2003 vs. Kentucky).
This is the third Player of the Week honor for a Wisconsin player this season, joining Jon Leuer, who was honored on Dec. 6 and Feb. 7. The last time UW had three or more Player of the Week accolades in the same season was in 2006-07 when Alando Tucker (three times) and Kammron Taylor (one time) each earned the award.
Taylor leads the nation with a sparkling 4.0 assist-to-turnover ratio and is second in the Big Ten, averaging 20.8 points per game during conference play.
