KANSAS CITY, MO - MARCH 11: Head coach Bill Self of the Kansas Jayhawks looks on while taking on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the first half during the quarterfinals of the 2010 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament at the Sprint Center on March 11, 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas Jayhawks head coach Bill Self is steaming over the way his team played on the road against the TCU Horned Frogs on Wednesday. The fifth-ranked Jayhawks mustered only 13 points in the first half en route to a 62-55 upset defeat at the hands of TCU. Purple-clad fans stormed the floor immediately following the Horned Frogs' surprising victory, but Self was already preparing how he was going to describe his team's performance during the press conference. Well, it wasn't good. That is about all you can about that. "It was the worst team Kansas has ever put on the floor," Self said emphatically. "Since Dr. [James] Naismith was there. I think he had some bad teams and lost to the YMCA the first couple years." Kansas is now on a two-game losing skid after dropping a home contest to Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Jayhawks hadn't previously lost since Nov. 13."I assess the whole game as, what's the right word? Futility?" Self said. "I don't know how to describe it. It was awful. Even as bad as it was, which it was horrendous ... Offensively, that is as bad as you can play. We got off to such a bad start, and obviously it got worse from there." Self's offense sputtered to produce the lowest scoring output for a half at Kansas since the program began recording such records in the 1988-89 season."For the first half, there has not been a team play worse than that," Self said. "Anywhere. Maybe Northern Illinois earlier in the year."The great thing was we had three assists with the three baskets. Sharing the ball."Kansas' streak of 264 games without consecutive losses is now over. It had been the longest active streak in the nation prior to the TCU game."We're not individually a team of great players," Self said. "We have one guy who is super talented. And we have a bunch of nice players. We have allowed everybody the opportunity to believe they can beat us. And they should. We have opened up that floodgate." Via USA TODAY
