Kentucky Wildcats freshman Anthony Davis was named the winner of the Wooden Award on Saturday as the top men's basketball player in the nation. The 6-foot-10 Davis, who had 18 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots Saturday as Kentucky (37-2) beat in-state rival Louisville 69-61 to reach the NCAA title game, is the second freshman to win the award -- Kevin Durant of Texas did so in 2007. Including Saturday's game, Davis has averaged 14.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.6 blocks per game this season. He also has 20 double-doubles. Davis, who won The Associated Press Player of the Year award on Friday, is the first Kentucky player and Southeastern Conference player to win the Wooden Award. Davis beat out Kansas' Thomas Robinson to win the award. Michigan State's Draymond Green was third, followed by Ohio State's Jared Sullinger and North Carolina's Tyler Zeller. The rest of the 10-player Wooden All-American team, listed alphabetically, is Isaiah Canaan of Murray State, Jae Crowder of Marquette, Marcus Denmon of Missouri, Kevin Jones of West Virginia, and Doug McDermott of Creighton.

Davis earns Most Outstanding award

Anthony Davis did everything but score. He didn't need to. The player of the year was simply sublime in Kentucky's 67-59 victory over Kansas on Monday night that gave the Wildcats their eighth national title. His presence in the lane forced Kansas to back off and look for other options, none of which were very good. When the Jayhawks did venture inside, he made them pay...

UK fan’s cat with Anthony Davis’ unibrow looks rather unimpressed

Oh you crazed Kentucky fans, are there no limits to your obsessive fandom?  If you’re not fighting with Louisville fans at a dialysis clinic, you’re decorating your pets in a Wildcats motif by drawing Anthony Davis’ now famous unibrow onto your cat’s forehead, in what can only be described as an act of extremely mild animal cruelty.  Yes, cruelty.  Even members of the...

Anthony Davis Took A Shot To The Eye In The Championship Game

Anthony Davis took a finger to the eye in the national championship game between the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kentucky Wildcats. The eye didn’t prevent Kentucky or Davis from rolling. A Kansas cheerleader flexed her muscles and looked like Anna Watson from Georgia. It looks like couches and maybe houses will burn in Lexington, Kentucky tonight if things keep up. JUMP! Have something...

Kentucky vs Kansas final odds: Wildcats picked to cover spread

The spread on Kentucky has climbed to 7 points at some sportsbooks and the betting public continues to back the Wildcats ahead of their battle with Kansas Monday night. The college basketball national final won't be much of a battle if oddsmakers are right. And it could be a great day for bettors if Kentucky covers the spread. "The line opened at -6 but it's up to -7...

No. 1 Kentucky 67, No. 6 Kansas 59

No matter where Anthony Davis and his buddies go to make their millions, their ol' Kentucky home will long remember this championship season. The Wildcats hit the jackpot with their lottery picks Monday night, ignoring Davis' bad shooting night and parlaying a roster full of NBA talent into a 67-59 victory over Kansas for the team's eighth national title - and its first...

Anthony Davis voted college basketball play of the year

For Kentucky's Anthony Davis it has been a remarkable season that already includes SEC Offensive & Defensive player of the year awards. However, as Davis and the rest of the Wildcats prepare for the Louisville Cardinals Saturday in the Final Four, news broke that Davis had been voted The Associated Press men's college basketball Player of the Year. Davis received 43...

KENTUCKY VS. KANSAS: VL’S NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PICK!

College basketball’s top two elite of Davis and Robinson go for all the jambalaya tonight in New Orleans. Uh-huh…exactly as I thought: Kentucky vs. Kansas for the national championship on Monday night. It took a valiant effort by Kansas (and likely a firm tongue lashing from head coach Bill Self) to get the Jayhawks to finally show up in their second half semi-final against...

Prediction for the NCAA Championship game

Kentucky vs. Kansas Kentucky is playing lights out right now they are clearly the best team in the country. I don’t know if some of the bad NBA teams could beat them right now. The star for the Wildcats is once again Anthony Davis. Just like Kentucky is clearly the best team in the country Davis is clearly the best player in the nation. All the freshman did against...

Don't Sleep on the Jayhawks

"Kentucky is on another level. Everyone else is playing for second place." A statement I've heard too often this year. It's been a forgone conclusion all season. Kentucky, a team filled with freshmen and sophomores, and considered the most talented team in college basketball, will play for and win a National Championship in April. Led by National Player of the...
