One of the cardinal rules in basketball is to not save a ball until the opponents’ basket.  I guess you could call it an essential rule to not save a ball into the opponents’ basket. Kentucky freshman (Rochester, MI native) James Young disobeyed both the cardinal and essential rules against UNC-Asheville Monday night.  Chalk it up to a freshman mistake, I guess.  A derth of the Wildcats’ mistakes this year will be made by freshmen as Jon Calipari has about 15 on his roster. Good hustle, but dumb play.  The basketball nerd fundmentalist could tell him that if he’s going to save it there, he has to throw it down toward Kentucky’s hoop.  Coaching opportunity. For those scoring this game at home, I ask you why.  But, it counted as a three-pointer for UNC-Asheville. [via @Wirth_the_Wait]
