Tonight at 7 on ESPN2, the Cincinnati Bearcats host the Marquette Golden Eagles. It's a huge game for many reasons. First off, it's Senior Day. The festivities start at 6:40. Show up early. Not only is it the last game for Yancy Gates and Dion Dixon, but it's a huge game in shaping the Bearcats path for March. They have an outside chance for a top 4 seed in the Big East tournament. They need help getting there, but winning out is vital to that. Marquette has the second seed locked up. They've won 12 of 13, including 5 in a row. The second of those 5 was a 95-78 ass kicking of the Bearcats in Milwaukee. That's a third theme for this game. It is wrought with story lines. It's a huge game. Huge.

Stats are Big East numbers only from Stat Sheet. Rank in parentheses.

Bit of honesty, on guys like Jamil Wilson and Vander Blue who took under 15 3 attempts, I guessed their 2%. Not busting out the calculator for that.

Paw Points

I talked with the Marquette blog Paint Touches here.

UC is honoring the 50th anniversary of the 1962 national title team at halftime.

UC has beaten the last 2 ranked teams they've played and 3 of 4.

Marquette is the 2nd most efficient offensive team in the league with 1.08 points per possession, they are 7th defensively at 0.98. Cincinnati is tied for 4th with ND and PC at 1.04, and 8th at 0.99 defensively.

Any stat you choose, FG%, eFG%, true shooting %, Marquette is first in the Big East and UC is at or near the bottom. Both teams are middle of the pack defensively. If you remember in the first meeting, Marquette shot the lights out. Marquette is the 3rd best foul shooting team, getting to the line at the 3rd highest rate. UC is the worst foul shooting team, 65%, and have the 4th lowest rate. UC holds teams to the second lowest FT rate in the league, Marquette 5th lowest.

Marquette doesn't attempt a ton of 3s, 17 a game (10th in the league), but they make 35%. UC has attempted the 4th most, made the 3rd most and hits 33.5%, the 5th best. Both teams give up around 17 attempts a game. 3s will fly. 31 did in the first meeting, 18 Marquette, 13 UC.

Marquette is one of the weakest rebounding teams in the league. They are the 4th worst offensive rebound percentage team, UC 5th best, and the 5th wost defensive rebound percentage team, UC 8th. The Bearcats had 18 offensive boards teh first meeting.

Marquette is the best passing team in the league. They average 17.2 assists, over an assist more than the 2nd place team. They are ok about not turning the ball over. UC turns the ball over the fewest amount of times in the league. Marquette forces the highest turnover pct, 23.6, in the league. UC had 14 of those the first time. Marquette gets 9 steals a game, just behind Louisville's 9.1.
