For the past year, the @KUBoobs twitter account has been tweeting pictures of women in cleavage-baring KU themed shirts as a rallying cry of sorts for Jayhawk sports teams. Now, it seems that they’ve started selling branded merchandise, they’ve run afoul of the powers that be at the university, and have been sent a cease and desist by the school. Initially, it seemed that the school was seeking to shutter the twitter account and its Facebook page, but a statement from the Associate Director for Public Affairs cleared up the issue. Per “We’re not trying to shut @KUBoobs down. It’s one thing to have a Twitter account. It’s another thing to sell items with ‘KU’ on it, which is what they’re doing,” said Jim Marchiony, Associate Director of Public Affairs with KU Athletics. “That’s our federal trademark, which we always have to protect.” The @KUBoobs account has launched a #saveKUBoobs hashtag, but it looks as if as long as they stop selling merchandise, they’ll be in the clear.
