Michigan State's Keith Appling appears poised to make this his breakout season. The 15th-ranked Spartans will see what their fast-rising junior can do next as they host Louisiana-Lafayette in the final game of the Spartan Showcase on Sunday. After limping off the court with a sprained right ankle late in the first half, the point guard shook it off to finish with 20 points and lead Michigan State (4-1) past Oakland 70-52. "At first, I got scared,'' Appling said. "That didn't seem like an average ankle roll. After I calmed down and took a couple deep breaths, I was able to walk on it.'' Since the short-handed Spartans can't afford to lose their top playmaker, Appling will continue to log heavy minutes as they look to sweep the Spartan Showcase on Sunday. Appling has played 78...

Michigan State basketball closes out Oakland late

One day after the Valentine brothers would normally be eating Thanksgiving dinner together, they were duking it out on the court Friday night when Drew and his Oakland team came to East Lansing to take on the 15th ranked Michigan State basketball team and his younger brother Denzel. The game got off to a slow start early as neither team was able to get a steady flow going on offense...

Oakland-Michigan St. Preview

Michigan State (3-1) suffered a major blow to its backcourt Tuesday when freshman guard Gary Harris...

Michigan St. tops Louisiana-Lafayette

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo is getting tired of his team's generous nature and giving spirit over the holidays. The No. 15 Spartans (5-1) committed 20 turnovers, 14 in the second half, and barely survived a 63-60 scare from Louisiana-Lafayette on Sunday. ''Our guys are going to be great citizens when they get done with basketball, because the Christmas season is lasting...
