Rick Pitino earned his 650th career win this afternoon as Louisville defeated South Florida 59-41. The Cardinals are now 21-5 overall and 9-4 in Big East play. Today’s win puts Louisville in fourth place in the Big East.
Russ Smith led Louisville’s balanced scoring attack with 15-points, connecting all seven of his free throw attempts. He also added six rebounds and four assists. Chane Behanan and Wayne Blackshear each chipped in with 12-points apiece. Four of Behanan’s five field goals were slam dunks. He also finished with four rebounds and three assists.
Kevin Ware came off the bench and gave the Cards a spark in the first half, scoring seven points early on. Gorgui Dieng only finished with four points, but he grabbed 10-rebounds and blocked five shots. Dieng is averaging 13.3 rebounds in his last three games. Peyton Siva had just one field goal, but dished out seven assists.
