There aren’t a lot of positive things to talk about from tonight’s performance. Particularly on the offensive end. Louisville was fortunate enough to squeeze out a 51-46 win over Northern Iowa. The keyword there was fortunate. This was easily Louisville’s worse performance of the young season. I had hoped that this year’s team was good enough to where it wouldn’t take Russ Smith single handedly providing a spark to win games. Unfortunately that is exactly what happened tonight. Louisville wouldn’t have won without Russ. He led the team in nearly every statistical category, finishing with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Outside of Russ, I can’t think of one player that played well. In the limited action Montrezl Harrell received, he was effective, but for some reason he only played 13 minutes. Louisville’s defense was a different story. Despite giving up a few open three’s down the stretch, Louisville’s defense played very well overall. Northern Iowa was averaging 80+ ...
