Louisville guard Russ Smith is the Cardinals' offensive catalyst who plays entirely by feel - often frustrating coach Rick Pitino.
Yet, Pitino knows he can't win without his frenetic playmaker.
The sophomore is averaging 13.3 points per game in the NCAA tournament and his play will be pivotal when Louisville faces Kentucky in Saturday's rematch at the Final Four in New Orleans.
Smith scored 30 points in the Cardinals' 69-62 loss to the Wildcats on Dec. 31. It was the most points any individual scored against Kentucky this season.
But Smith has lapses that raise Pitino's ire. He is often caught apologizing to his coach. Smith sums up his play saying he doesn't know why he does what he does.
Pitino coined another term for his inconsistency: ''Russdiculous.''

PHOENIX (AP) -- Hated to do that to ya, kid.
Rick Pitino nearly came unhinged and his point guard watched the end of the game from the bench. When it was over, though, it was Pitino and Louisville making plans for the Final Four and his protege, Billy Donovan, and the Florida Gators wondering what the heck happened.
Chane Behanan made the go-ahead basket with 1:04 left Saturday...
Louisville vs Kentucky: It’s a bluegrass throwdown! Rick Pitino vs his old employer! Kentucky has been better all season and has a roster full of 5 star recruits, but as usual they’re very young with the usual stable of one and dones. In the meantime Louisville had a nice season going, then got hot in the Big East tournament and have parlayed that into a final four appearance...

On Selection Sunday, Syracuse was seen as one of only a handful of teams with a legitimate shot of winning the college basketball national championship. After Saturday night, that list grew even smaller. Ohio State took the floor in Boston with just a tad more intensity and in the end, the Buckeyes were able to overcome the Fab Melo-less Orange en route to a 77-70 victory. The Buckeyes...
Since the bulk of this week’s Final Four coverage will center on the Kentucky-Louisville/Calipari-Pitino matchup, I figured I may as well get in on the act.
First, let’s look at the series history between these two schools, which isn’t as extensive as you might assume.

- Rick Pitino just owns is former point guard Billy Donovan. In their head to head matchups Pitino is undefeated. Florida killed Louisville with threes in the 1st half but Pitino made a great coaching adjustment and the Gators did not make a three in the second half. Florida really choked this game away. Louisville finshed the game on an...
Kyle Kuric turned out to be the highlight of Rick Pitino’s press conference, looking for all the world like a happy-go-luck college kid as he entered the room, wearing his adidas Final Four cap backwards. The University of Louisville senior managed to answer a couple of questions before Kenny Klein, the sports information director, may a quick motion with his hands, quietly suggesting...
OMG guys, a high school girl dunked twice last night during a McDonald's All-American Dunk Contest. Women's basketball is evolving into just like the boy's game. WRONG! It was ridiculous as I watched it live. If you saw my endless mockery tweets of the whole event, you know how angry I was. Pat Summitt, Geno Auriemma and Brittney Griner were de-evolutionized...
Oh. Hi Joan!
How goddamn annoying are those commercials where Greg Anthony tells us that it isn't March Monotony? Those ads are the worst. Speaking of ads, Mad Men came back last night. That's some excellent transitioning right there! Anyway, we're down to the Final Four so let's take a few minutes to talk about how we got there.
