Cornell have overcome the March Madness odds to reach the Sweet 16 in Syracuse, but on Thursday, they’re going up against Kentucky, who showed why they’re the top seed in the East region with two dazzling performances, and with Kansas out of the way, the Wildcats have to be considered the favorites to win the national title.

Cornell vs Kentucky odds – Thursday, March 25, 9:57 PM ET

The 12th-seeded Big Red followed up a 78-65 win over Temple by thumping Wisconsin 87-69 in the second round, shooting a blistering 61.1% from the field, including eight of their 15 three-point attempts. Louis Dale poured in 26 points, while Ryan Wittman added 24 points for the Big Red, and these two were spectacular in the first weekend of the Tournament. The Big Red had eight turnovers against the Badgers, which is well under their average of 12.1, but it’s their three-point shooting that will guide them to a March Madness odds upset. The Big Red are the best long-range team in the nation, hitting their treys at a 43.5% clip.

College basketball betting odds watched Kentucky breeze through the first weekend of the dance, as they romped East Tennessee State 100-71 in the opening round before rolling to a 90-60 rout over Wake Forest. Darius Miller had a career-high 20 points for the Wildcats, who had four players in double figures, and shot 60.3% from the field. DeMarcus Cousins had 19 points and eight boards for the Wildcats, who held the Demon Deacons to 32.8% from the floor, and Kentucky doesn’t get enough credit for their defense. Everyone knows how wildly explosive they are on the offensive end of the floor, but the Wildcats are fourth in the country in field-goal defense, and they harass you for 40 minutes, starting with the backcourt of John Wall and Eric Bledsoe.

Sportsbook odds (sportsbook reviews) have the Wildcats as an 8.5-point favorite, and even though Cornell is about an hour from Syracuse, Kentucky may have the fan advantage. This is the first-ever meeting for these two programs, and both teams like to push the pace. The Wildcats need to do two things to overcome this scrappy Cornell team: they need to get out on Dale, Wittman and the rest of the Big Red’s three-point gunners, and they have to get on the boards. The Big Red have outrebounded their opponents by 12 rebounds so far in the Tournament, and the Wildcats are sixth in the country in rebound margin, grabbing 7.8 more boards than the opposition. In the end, Kentucky’s athleticism is different than anything the Big Red has faced outside of non-conference games against Kansas and Syracuse, and Cornell lost both of those.
