MILWAUKEE -- Marquette forward Davante Gardner was ejected from Monday's 63-50 victory over South Florida after he was assessed with a flagrant-2 foul in the second half. With 13:46 left in the game, Gardner and USF forward Zach LeDay were tied up with the basketball in front of the USF bench. In an effort to get the basketball, Gardner swung his elbow, catching LeDay in the head. The officiating crew of Tony Greene, Gene Steratore and Bryan Kersey convened and determined it was a flagrant-2, resulting in Gardner's ejection. Though the possesion arrow was in Marquette's favor, the Bulls got two free throws and possession of the ball. There's no automatic suspension after a flagrant-2 ejection, but the Big East office has the authority to hand down further discipinary action. Two years ago, the NCAA changed the terminology on these plays. What used to be an intentional foul is now a flagrant foul, while the old flagrant foul is now a flagrant-2. Marquette deputy athletic director Mike Broeker told Buzz Williams after the game that the school expects to hear from the league office Tuesday morning. The Golden Eagles play at No. 12 Louisville on Sunday. "I didn't see it," Williams said. " ... After they looked at the monitor they said he's got to go." Gardner Marquette's second leading scorer entering Monday at 13.2 points per game played just 12 minutes and scored four points and grabbed three rebounds. It was the first time in Marquette's seven Big East games Gardner has not reached double figures. Follow Andrew Gruman on Twitter.
