PLAYERS: Marshall Henderson
TEAMS:

There is no doubt that Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson loves to be the center of attention. He put that on full display in the teams NCAA Tournament press conference on Thursday from the moment he entered the room and greeted the media with a ‘”What up, y’all?” Henderson is a love’em or hate’em type player, with more people being of the latter as he embraces a villain type role. SEC fans aren’t particularly fond of his jersey-popping and taunting. He gator-chomped Florida fans when Ole Miss captured the SEC Tournament Championship. Here are some additional highlights of this afternoon’s presser, with the quoted sections via Game On! : “I’ve been a Duke fan since my dad ever told me anything about basketball. It was all about Duke, Duke, Duke. I love the way they play.” A Duke fan? Well, that just ups the villain role even more, right? “I guess. I don’t know. I’m not real good at math.… Other than two, plus three. I know that one well.” Probably not a math major. “I know [Wisconsin has] got, like, the 10th-best defense or something. But we also know that Florida and Alabama have better defenses than them. I [...]

Mississippi 57, No. 18 Wisconsin 46

Marshall Henderson shook out of a shooting slump and scored 17 points in the second half, leading 12th-seeded Mississippi past No. 5 Wisconsin 57-46 on Friday, giving the Rebels their first NCAA tournament win since 2002. For the cold-shooting Badgers (23-12), the upset loss snaps a string of six straight first-game victories. Ole Miss (27-8) trailed 25-22 at halftime and Henderson...

Henderson caught even LeBron's eye

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Marshall Henderson's frustration was mounting with each 3-pointer that rattled out or clanged off the back rim. If this was supposed to be his coming out party on a national stage, he may as well have sent everyone home and thrown the cake in the trash. Henderson, the swagger-walking, trash-talking, standout for Ole Miss, had shot the kind of percentage you...

Henderson is a (mouth) runnin Rebel

KANSAS CITY, Mo. They surged into the Ole Miss locker room like an overflowing riverbank Thursday morning, holding cameras and tape recorders meant specifically for the most entertaining and controversial player in college basketball. He had been called talkative. Cocky. Brash. And surely a few other unprintable words uttered from opposing players on the court. Dozens of media members...

Colorful Ole Miss star lights up Kansas City

Mississippi coach Andy Kennedy compares watching Marshall Henderson to watching NASCAR. The wrecks are both unpredictable and inevitable. The Rebels' colorful, polarizing guard drew plenty of attention on Thursday in Kansas City, where No. 12 seed Ole Miss is preparing to play fifth-seeded Wisconsin in the NCAA tournament Friday. When the Rebels' locker room opened, dozens...

Marshall, Marshall, Marshall... Ole Miss Blows Up Brackets

((HT: CBSSports/NCAA/Turner)) And if your bracket was full before this game, odds are it's not in place now. LeBron James Gives Shout-Out to Marshall Henderson, Ole Miss Guard Reacts Accordingly

Marshall Henderson may have more enemies than fans in the college basketball world, but not many of his critics can say they’ve received a personal shout-out from LeBron James. The free-shooting, free-speaking guard from Ole Miss struggled in the first half of Friday’s matchup against Wisconsin, shooting only 1-11 from the field. But that didn’t stop the controversial star...

Quite the Characters

Ole Miss, La Salle pull off NCAA upsets in KC

Nobody would have blamed La Salle's weary guys for leaving the Sprint Center, finding the nearest bed in the team hotel and laying down for a well-earned snooze. Ole Miss star Marshall Henderson? He was hitting the town to celebrate. The No. 12 seed Rebels knocked off fifth-seeded Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Friday night, shortly before the No. 13...

Wisconsin goes cold falls 57-46 in NCAA tourney

Wisconsin's vaunted defense did its job, holding Mississippi to its lowest point total of the year. It was the suspect offense that failed. The Badgers put up 59 shots against Ole Miss on Friday but made only 15 of them. So Bo Ryan's team headed home after a 57-46 loss that snapped a six-year string of first-game wins for one of the NCAA's most consistently successful...

NCAA Tournament Live: Marshall Henderson’s Ole Miss, Doug McDermott’s Creighton Look to Make Noise on Second Day

8 a.m. ET: March Madness this time around is a little different than it has been in years past, with no clear-cut No. 1 team and few big-name players ready to etch themselves into NCAA Tournament lore. What’s so great about March Madness, though, is that even when the odds are stacked in one direction, anything can happen. Two players who have already grabbed some headlines before...

SEC may have a Cinderella in the NCAAs

The snubs were not unexpected. In fact, they weren't really snubs. As much as Kentucky fans want to believe their Wildcats deserved the benefit of the doubt on Selection Sunday, the defending national champions simply weren't that good. Neither was Alabama, nor Vanderbilt, or even 20-12 Tennessee. Only three SEC teams made it to the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and...

Badgers' scout team had tiring task

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Wisconsin guard Zak Showalter dribbled down court during practice on Wednesday and spotted an open teammate cutting to the basket. Instincts, naturally, told him to zip a pass through the defense so the scout team could score two points against the Badgers' starters. He did ... only to find himself reprimanded and briefly pulled from the floor. If that reaction...
