Perhaps the only sort of leadership that was shown on the Kentucky Wildcats roster last season came from Wright State transfer Julius Mays. Mays came into the program wanting to play in the NCAA Tournament and compete for a national title. Even though he didn’t get that chance, he’s opened doors for himself to become a professional. Mays was invited and participated in a Pre-Draft NBA Combine in New Jersey this morning. Mays is one of 30 players at the event who will be measured, tested, and perform in 5 on 5 drills. Coaches and personnel from all 30 teams were in attendance. From the Twitter account of Kentucky head coach John Calipari, Mays played very well in the combine. Coach Calipari was in East Rutherford, NJ to watch Mays participate at the combine. Here are Calipari’s tweets regarding Mays:   Julius Mays lead the ‘Cats last year in 3-pointers made (65), and averaged 9.3 points per game. With stats like that, Mays has put himself in position to be on an NBA team’s radar for next season. I highly doubt he will actually be selected in the NBA Draft, but he is eligible to sign with any NBA team as a free agent. Whether he makes it on an NBA roster, the D-League, or in Europe, I hope someone gives Julius Mays a chance. I felt bad for him sometimes last year, because nobody knew what kind of situation would unfold when it came to last season. Mays had so many clutch moments for the ‘Cats, I can’t imagine what the season would have been like without him. I’m glad he decided to come to UK and pursue his master’s degree. Good luck to Julius and all the other draft hopefuls on reaching their ultimate dreams.
