The Michigan State track and field team completed competition this afternoon at the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The two-day event was held at the Loftus Sports Center with over eleven Spartans finishing in the top ten of their events.

Midway through the second period on Friday, Michigan State trailed Ohio State 3-1 and seemed to be on the verge of losing its third straight game. The Spartans were working hard, playing better and staying within striking distance of the Buckeyes. But quality scoring chances were infrequent - until the third and fourth lines and defense turned the game around for MSU.

One of the key reasons Michigan State has had a good chance to win almost every game it played this season is consistent play by the defense.Before the season, the Spartans' defensive corps was a major question mark. But the defense responded to the challenge and has been a big factor in MSU's solid start in the first half of the season.

Michigan State head field hockey head coach, Helen Knull, and her assistants, Shawn Hindy and Molly Maloney, will host their annual field hockey camp this July. There will be two different camp weekends this summer. From July 15-18th, a team camp will be hosted. The Shoot and Save camp, which welcomes field hockey players and goalies, will be held from July 22-25th.

Michigan State welcomes another ranked opponent into Jenison Field House in No. 6 Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. Six Spartans seniors will be recognized in their last home match at Michigan State for their contributions made to the program. Admission to the dual will be free in honor of Senior Day and Fan Appreciation Day.
