ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Early season trouble for Missouri: The Tigers will be without one of their strongest backcourt presences for an undisclosed amount of time. Coach Frank Haith announced Friday that senior guard Michael Dixon, Mizzous top player off the bench last season, is suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules. Freshman guard Dominique Bull, a Worchester, Mass., native, also was suspended without the length of his absence known. Dixon, a Kansas City, Mo., native, averaged 13.5 points and 3.3 assists per game last season and is expected to join junior Phil Pressey in making one of the countrys strongest backcourt duos this season. Dixon earned plenty of accolades in a breakout junior campaign. Last season, he was tabbed the Big 12 Conference Sixth Man of the Year. Coaches also named him to the leagues all-defensive team. Dixons absence shouldnt hurt the Tigers early as long as he returns within the month. Missouri has exhibition games scheduled against Northwest Missouri State (Oct. 29) and Missouri Southern (Nov. 4) before opening the regular season with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (Nov. 10), Alcorn State (Nov. 13) and Nicholls State (Nov. 16). The Tigers first significant test figures to be Stanford, the defending NIT champion, in opening the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament on Nov. 22. Missouri enters its second season under Haith. Last year, the Tigers went 30-5, falling to Norfolk State in the Round of 64. You can follow Andrew Astleford on Twitter @aastleford or email him at aastleford@gmail.com
