This is what happens when a 15-seed makes it to the Sweet 16.  We haven’t seen it before (because it’s never happened).  After upsetting the 2-seed Georgetown on Friday, FGCU beat the 7-seed San Diego State Sunday behind Bernard Thomson’s 23 points, Sherwood Brown’s 17 points and eight rebounds and Brett Comer’s 10 points and 14 assists.  Head coach Andy Enfield teaches a carefree style of basketball that has obviously gotten through to his kids who have not shown a lick of nervousness in the biggest games of their lives.

16 of FGCU’s made field goals were lay-ups, dunks or tip-ins.  The Eagles used a 16-0 run in the second half to blow the game open.

Above is video of Enfield getting doused with water and FGCU’s locker room celebration.

FGCU architect Balza laid base for success

Dave Balza would like to dispel two statements. Both are correct in terms of the letter of the law. But both are still a bit off, both taken a smidge out of context. You'll have heard the first if you've watched even a few minutes of March Madness this year, especially if those minutes have been of the frenetic, underdog, blue and green variety. In fact, if you've...

Aztecs can't run with FGCU, lose in NCAAs 81-71

San Diego State knows what Georgetown felt like. The Aztecs, like the Hoyas two nights earlier, could only watch Florida Gulf Coast celebrate an upset win at the NCAA tournament. WEEI host digs deeper hole with terrible Erin Andrews “apology”

It was one week ago when WEEI radio host Kirk Minihane unleashed a vulgar rant in the direction of Erin Andrews.  Minihane called her a “gutless b*tch” which clearly crossed any line of decency, even for the widening cesspool that is sports talk radio.  The station issued a statement from Minihane apologizing for the comments, although there’s no evidence that Minihane was...
