Pre-Dantonio, Michigan State fans would be a few weeks away from the “when does basketball season start?” attitude.  Now that the Michigan State football program is noteworthy on the national level, the first signs of basketball aren’t as big as they used to be.  But, that doesn’t mean that this season’s first few practices aren’t special.

If you remember back to the regular season finale against Ohio State, MSU freshman forward Branden Dawson crumpled after a non-contact injury resulting in a torn anterior cruciate ligament.  A little more than six months after surgery, the team’s leading returning rebounder is jumping “like he never had surgery,” according to junior center Adreian Payne.

Dawson is on pace to return for the start of the season which begins in Germany on November 9.  Michigan State will play Kansas on November 13.

Here’s video of the Spartans’ first team workout of the season this past Saturday.  The team also received their Big Ten championship rings.
