Myck & McClellan help Horns top ISU, 89-86 in 2OT

AUSTIN —  In basketball, the point guard is the quarterback. The most critical component to a successful team. And Myck Kabongo proved why tonight. Behind his 13 points, five assists and seven boards, he helped Texas knock off Iowa State, 89-86 in double overtime on Wednesday, in his first game of 2013. It sent good vibes throughout Austin from the basketball program for the first time in months. All of this might not have been possible without Ioannis Papaetrou’s three-pointer with :1.7 seconds left in regulation. Sheldon McClellan scored all 10 of Texas’ points in the second extra frame, and finished with a team-high 18. He also had a big steal and knocked down two clutch free throws in the final seconds for Texas (11-13, 3-8 Big 12). The Cyclones had an opportunity to tie it but Chris Babb’s triple with 5 seconds left feel short and the Horns’ Connor Lammert snagged the long rebound and the win in the process.
