gopack.com North Carolina State freshman guard Rodney Purvis is leaving the school, according to NC State beat writer Joe Giglio. A former McDonalds All-American, Purvis averaged 8.3 points and 2.4 rebounds and started 23 games for the Wolfpack during the 2012-13 season. The Raleigh native originally committed to Louisville, but decided to stay home when NC State hired Mark Gottfried in April of 2011. Now, after one season, Purvis becomes the ninth player to transfer from Raleigh since the 2009-10 season. With Louisville set to join the ACC in 2014, it is likely that the school would block a transfer there, meaning a new school may be in the mix for Purvis. According to CBS analyst Jeff Goodman, UConn could make another push for Purvis. Expect UConn to be in the mix for Rodney Purvis, sources told CBSSports. — Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanCBS) April 1, 2013 The Huskies were interested in Purvis before he ultimately chose Louisville, and it looks like landing in Storrs is not merely conjecture, as SNY’s John Silver also says that UConn may be Purvis’ eventual destination. Barring an NCAA appeal, Purvis will have to sit out next season, allowing him to return with three years of eligibility starting with the 2014-15 season. UConn is also on the shortlist for former Seton Hall guard Aaron Cosby, but Purvis may be the bigger get of the two, and UConn fans certainly have made themselves heard about their desire to get Purvis. Rodney Purvis at UConn would be awesome. He probably sits out a year, but then starts after some people leave next year. — Dan (@D_Skullz) April 1, 2013 Rodney Purvis to UConn rumors!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Shoulda committed here in the first place but I’ll still take him — mrshuttlezworth (@mrshuttlezworth) March 31, 2013 Purvis to #UConn sure makes a lot of sense. — A Dime Back (@ADimeBack) April 1, 2013 But seriously, Purvis almost went to UConn. Kevin Ollie just started following Purvis on twitter. Purvis just started following Boatright. — TheUConnBlog (@theuconnblog) April 1, 2013
