The NCAA made some major changes to the rules that govern recruiting. Among the changes, conferences can vote to add $2,000 in “full cost-of-attendance” money to scholarship student-athletes. It’s not a pay for play, but a stipend to help offset the costs that student-athletes incur during the course of a school year.

In basketball coaches can now make unlimited calls or send unlimited texts to prep recruits after June 15 at the end of their sophomore year. It’s a little too late to help Kelvin Sampson, but it will be a good recruiting tool for coaches. In the hands of the right coach this will be a very effective weapon. This is where Michigan comes in with their secret weapon. I can comfortably say that one of the Top 10 coaches in the country, who will be able to maximize this change, is U-M assistant Bacari Alexander. The guy is a tremendous teacher and motivator, but he is also a Twitter legend.

@Bacari34 can pump out tweets faster than a room gets dark after turning off a light switch. Thanks to Muhammad Ali for that quote.

Need a motivational quote or leadership tip, check BA’s twitter feed. He will often sign off a tweet with a hearty HALOL! which means, Happy Laugh Out Loud. I love it and have added it to my repertoire. Another personal favorite of mine is when he asks his players, via Twitter, if their conscious.

So it stands to reason that his legendary twitter abilities will translate well with this new unlimited texting rule.

I can imagine him firing off a text to a recruit reminding him of what makes Michigan great.

He’s also a great ambassador for the University and a proud supporter of all the athletics teams. See below where he uses two of his staples, HALOL! and Grow Blue! to support Denard Robinson and the football team.

This will be Coach Alexander’s second season at Michigan and he has already made a profound impact on the team. Joe and I have been able to watch up close as he works the bench during a game and it is obvious that he is a great asset to John Beilein. He coaches the post players and has helped develop Jordan Morgan into the beast that he is. Watch the development of Michigan’s other big men like Jon Horford and Blake McLimans. He is a Detroit native who played his college ball at Robert Morris before transferring to the University of Detroit.
