Nik Stauskas needed 12 stitches to close a wound above his eye. (Photo: MGoBlog) Nik Stauskas did not return to Michigan’s win over Michigan State on Sunday after taking an accidental Branden Dawson elbow, and Wolverines coach John Beilein said that there’s no official word on Stauskas’ status moving forward. Stauskas was rushed to Michigan’s locker room, bleeding profusely from just above his left eye, after Dawson inadvertently injured him on a play near the basket. As Trey Burke raced down the floor for a layup, Stauskas staggered along the far baseline, calling for a referee’s attention. The freshman sharpshooter did return to Michigan’s bench for the second half, with 12 stitches and a heavy bandage in place over his eye. He did not reenter the game, and Beilein’s words — “I don’t think he felt real good,” he said in his press conference — hint that the Wolverines might have been playing it extra cautiously in case Stauskas suffered a concussion. Michigan’s next game is Wednesday night at Purdue, followed by its regular-season finale against Indiana next Sunday. Without Stauskas in the lineup, Michigan turned to fellow freshman Caris LeVert. He delivered eight points in 30 minutes, while playing some tough defense on Michigan State’s Gary Harris. LeVert, who started the year with a redshirt, might be in line to start against the Boilermakers if Stauskas cannot go.
