Branden Dawson scored 20 points and Keith Appling added 17, leading No. 12 Michigan State past Purdue 78-65 on Saturday night. The Spartans (20-4, 9-2 Big Ten) have won three straight, nine of their last 10, four of their last five on the road in conference play and will retain at least a share of the league lead - regardless of what happens Sunday when No. 1 Indiana visits No. 10 Ohio State. Purdue (12-12, 5-6) was led by Terone Johnson with 20 points and Ronnie Johnson with 15, but couldn't avoid losing for the fourth time in five games or for the fifth straight time in the series. Coming into the game, there were questions about how healthy Michigan State would be after Wednesday night's physical struggle against No. 18 Minnesota. Appling left that game when his right shoulder popped out and then back in, Adreian Payne missed part of the second half with a bloody nose, Gary Harris (back) and Branden Dawson (sprained right ankle) played through the pain, and Travis Tri...

Michigan State Basketball: No.12 Spartans roll past the Boilermakers

Branden Dawson scored a career-high 20 points  as No. 12 Michigan State grabbed their 20th victory of the season with a 78-65 win on the road over the Purdue Boilermakers (12-12, 5-6) Saturday night. Once again, as was the case last season, Dawson was the beneficiary of some blunt crowd remarks from Purdue fans that still have ill will  towards his decision not to become a Boilermaker...

Michigan State @ Purdue Recap

While this game wasn’t a perfect one by any means, viewing the box score leaves me feeling pretty darn good about it just the same. Much of the season has been spent lauding the efforts of Appling, Harris and Dawson, and deservedly so, but what was most impressive about this victory for me was the contributions of a few other players. Yes, the Spartans appeared to have quality...

Spartan Jump Shots, Boilermaker Edition: Michigan State vs. Purdue Preview

Following two come from behind performances at home which has inexplicably left the Michigan State Spartans tied for first in the Big Ten standings, now, the team must hit the road again for a weekend trip to West Lafayette, Indiana. Such voyages are always a severe test for the visitors, and despite the Purdue Boilermakers’ pedestrian record, this year’s game should prove no...
