Louisville's No. 1 concern heading into its showdown with Syracuse is attacking the Orangemen's signature 2-3 zone defense. How well the top-ranked Cardinals can penetrate and create easy scoring opportunities will determine who takes control of the Big East. Louisville coach Rick Pitino says No. 6 Syracuse presents a different challenge because of its effectiveness in limiting opponents' shooting and passing options. Then again, Louisville (16-1, 4-0 Big East) also presents defensive problems for Syracuse (16-1, 4-0). With their man-to-man defensive pressure, the Cardinals rank in the top three nationally in several categories, including turnover margin and steals. But ending a two-game losing streak to Syracuse and retaining the school's second-ever No. 1 ranking depends on Louisville's ability to penetrate the Orangemen's zone.

Recap: Rick Pitino Previews Syracuse

Opening quote from Pitino’s press conference — “This should be a fun weekend, Syracuse is one of the strongest teams to come into the KFC Yum Center since we’ve opened the arena. It should be a great challenge.” Pitino mentioned that teams never shoot a very good percentage against Syracuse. “Not too many teams are as good at stealing the ball in a zone as well as they...

Coach Pitino Still Wanting To See More From Kevin Ware

Sophomore guard Kevin Ware was expected to be one of the most improved players for Rick Pitino’s team this season. Ware played very briefly as a true freshman in 2011-12 after arriving on campus in mid-season during the second semester. It’s tough for someone to arrive midseason and quickly get acclimated to Rick Pitino’s system. It’s simply not something you can pick-up...

According to Steve Gorton of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Ft Lauderdale, 4-Star Outside Linebacker Jermaine Grace will announce his college decision on Tuesday.  What makes this interesting is that he will make his final college visit this Friday the 18th.  That visit will be to the University of Louisville.  Grace has taken official visits to Miami and Tennessee with the...

Syracuse 70 – Louisville 68: Cards Crumble Down The Stretch

Unfortunately for Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals, the No. 1 ranking lasted just one week. The Cards were in today game against Syracuse, but crumbled down the stretch, falling to the Orange by a score of 70-68. There is no shame in losing to a team like Syracuse in January, but I think we can all agree that Louisville should have left their home floor with a victory today...

Boeheim Sticks It To Pitino Again: Triche & MCW Lead Win Over #1 Louisville

Rick Pitino may get more national plaudits, but Jim Boeheim’s record against Slick Rick is a perfect 3-0 over the last two seasons after Syracuse escapes the Yum! Center with a dramatic 70-68 win. The Orange will likely take a few votes from Louisville, which had the #1 ranking before today. SU pulled it off without James Southerland, whose status is still up in the air. The game...

Benavides and Kupper set for All-Star game

Two former University of Louisville football players – Alex Kupper and Mario Benavides – will take a major step towards what they hope is a professional football career on Saturday night. The two offensive linemen will participate in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. Both players talked with Cardinal Authority about the event and their future.

Marquette's Summitt on coaching fast track

MILWAUKEE Tyler Summitt didn't grow up playing video games with his friends. He spent his childhood at team banquets and Final Fours. The son of legendary University of Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt, Tyler was raised differently than most. And that's not a complaint -- it's a compliment. It's one thing to be the son of the winningest coach...
