Florida has already developed a reputation as one of the nation's premier defensive teams. The Gators' offense doesn't look too bad these days, either. Kenny Boynton and Erik Murphy both scored 18 points and the 8th-ranked Gators poured in a season-high 14 3-pointers in an easy 82-47 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday night. Boynton said the reason for Florida's shooting success wasn't because of a fancy scheme. Instead, it was simply good decision-making. ''We took open shots,'' Boynton said. ''Patric Young did a great job finding us when they doubled him on the post. He found shooters and we did a good job knocking them down.'' Scottie Wilbekin and Young both added 13 points. The Gators (16-2, 6-0 Southeastern Conference) have now won eight straight and were never challenged in this one, bolting out to a 20-6 lead in less than eight minutes and a 41-19 advantage by halftime. Boynton and Murphy led the Gators with fo...

2013 Football Recruiting: Florida Gators Part Ways With LB James Hearns

The Florida Gators have cut ties with linebacker and now former commit James Hearns. Hearns – a four-star LB from Lincoln (Tallahassee, FL) was one of the first members of the Gators’ 2013 recruiting class. Florida has pulled his scholarship offer due to concerns over whether Hearns will be able to qualify academically. Hearns expressed no ill will toward the Gators, simply...

No. 14 Georgia 69, Florida 52

Jasmine Hassell scored 13 points and 10 different players scored for No. 14 Georgia as the Bulldogs beat Southeastern Conference-rival Florida 69-52 Sunday. Tiaria Griffin scored 12 points and Krista Donald had 11 for Georgia (17-3, 5-2), which rebounded strongly from a 64-46 loss to No. 20 Texas A&M on Jan. 20. Shacobia Barbee grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and Jasmine James...

Florida-Mississippi St. Preview

Although it never led in the opening half of its most recent game, Florida managed to record its latest decisive SEC victory. The Gators may have a good chance to earn another Saturday night. Eighth-ranked Florida will try to add to one of its best starts in conference play when it visits struggling Mississippi State. Florida faced its first halftime deficit in five SEC games Wednesday...

Early Impact: Demarcus Robinson

There's little doubt that the Florida Gators are looking for a more from their passing game. With a quarterback returning in 2013 that showed promise and ability, the next move is to step it up at the receiver position, especially in terms of play makers. The Gators got a real bump in that department in the first week in January when Demarcus Robinson committed to Florida and...

Changing the offense

Florida’s three-year run of College World Series appearances has been predicated on power. The Gators had seven players hit at least five home runs last season. The number won’t be close to that high this season, as head coach Kevin O’Sullivan changes the identity of his team. Florida will be active on the base paths this season to maximize the team speed that it hasn’t had since 2008.

Florida stays perfect in conference play

The Gators started without their full attention on the game Wednesday in Athens. They showed early on Saturday night that it wouldn’t happen twice in a row. After Mississippi State took a 4-3 lead early, the floodgates opened. No. 8 Florida then went on a 28-4 run, and it only got worse from there. The Gators closed out an 82-47 win over the Bulldogs to move to 6-0 in the Southeastern...

No. 8 Florida routs Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Kenny Boynton and Erik Murphy each scored 18 points, Patric Young and Scottie Wilbekin added 13 and No. 8 Florida cruised to an 82-47 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday night. The Gators (16-2, 6-0 Southeastern Conference) have now won eight straight and were never challenged in this one, bolting out to a 20-6 lead in less than eight minutes and...

Mississippi St falls to No. 8 Florida, 82-47

Florida has one of the most experienced, talented and deep teams in the country. Mississippi State's roster lacks any of those attributes. But that's not why first-year Bulldogs' coach Rick Ray is frustrated. Instead, Ray bemoaned a long string of bad decisions and selfish basketball that led to No. 8 Florida's easy 82-47 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday night...

Checkmate; Lane Can’t Wait

The one we should know the best, we still have a lot to learn about. Winter haven’s Adam Lane was the first prospect to commit to the Florida Gators in the 2013 class back in January 2012 and there is still so much more to know about soon to be official Gator. In less than two weeks, it will be official for lane and his class mates.
