Embarrassed, overmatched, overrated; just some of the words associated with Duke’s performance against the Ohio State Buckeyes.  The Buckeyes came out of the gates focused and full of energy, jumping out to a 11-0 lead.  Duke came back to cut it to a one point game at 19-18, but Ohio State finished the half on a 28-11 run.  It was definitely a disappointing outcome for the Blue Devils and a lot of potential issues were exposed.  Duke message boards are blowing up and posters are calling for new lineups and strategy changes.  While I am not saying Duke fans shouldn’t be concerned with the team’s performance, they do however need to sit back and look at the benefits that came from this game. The biggest issue with Duke’s performance against Ohio State was the play on the defensive side of the ball. Ohio State shot a blistering 59.3% from the field, and 57.1 % from the three point line, to go along with 18 assists to 10 turnovers.  How exactly did Ohio State score all 85 of their point...

Austin Rivers Has a Nasty Crossover

The one highlight for Duke during their embarrassing loss to Ohio State on Tuesday night may have been Austin Powers crossing up Jordan Sibert. The highly touted 19-year-old Duke player has shown signs of brilliance in his first college season, and this ankle breaker would be one of those. Video: Austin Rivers crossover against Ohio State

Yes, Duke got beat by 9,573 points last night. But at least Doc’s son Austin Rivers dropped 22 points and this highlight crossover.

Brad Beal excelling in loaded Florida backcourt

College basketball recruiting junkies will remember that almost two years ago, Florida received a verbal commitment from Brad Beal, a shooting guard from Chaminade (MO). At that time, the Gators also held a verbal commitment from lauded Winter Park (FL) guard Austin Rivers, who eventually broke his pledge and ended up at Duke. Had both [...] Related posts:Beal Commits to Florida...

Ohio State Too Good, Overwhelms Duke

Somehow Duke became the Washington Generals and Ohio State morphed into the Harlem Globetrotters.  We all know how that game ends every single time. Duke looked shell shocked just a few minutes into their Top 5 showdown with No. 2 Ohio State. By halftime the game was well in hand with Ohio State up by 19 and from there it just got worse in the second half. In the end the final...

Is Duke’s Austin Rivers The “Next Big Thing”?

I am a diehard Dukie. Have been since I was a little kid. I have seen some talented players come through the ranks; from Jay Williams to Shane Battier to Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer. Is Doc Rivers’ kid Austin the next big thing? He may be. Image credit: AP Photo/Sara D. Davis via Grantland He’s a little thin, but I watched him last night and his crossover is NASTY. He was breaking...

This Post Will Be Way Better If Duke Won Last Night

"SUCK MY DICK, GOD!" I’m not even going to bother writing up anything creative and ******** today. What’s the point when there are going to be 20+ comments before noon regarding “Duke Sux”, ******* Duke”, and “Is Austin Rivers black?”. So we’re running lean and mean on this Wednesday so that you can spew out whatever you want to in the comments without...

Seth Davis: Ohio State massacres No. 3 Duke

Ohio State had little trouble with Duke in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, smashing the Devils 85-63. Aaron Craft, Austin Rivers and Deshaun Thomas all earned high praise from Seth Davis.

What I Expect from Duke – Ohio State Tonight

I expect the guards from Ohio State to put pressure on the Duke guards, and keep them off of the three point arc. Duke will have to take care of the ball and expect sophomore guard Aaron Craft to be in waiting if they do not, Craft averages 3.5 steals per game. Austin Rivers especially will have to be aware and keep the turnovers to a minimum, valuing the ball should be his mantra...
