CBS Sports has announced their Midseason Awards today, Nerlens Noel and the UK team as a whole made an appearance. While CBS shuts out the Wildcats in nearly every major category, a little love is shown at the very end of the article. Mason Plumlee of Duke is tabbed as the Midseason Player of the Year, and UNLV’s Anthony Bennett is named Midseason Freshman of the Year over Kansas’ Ben McLemore. Midseason Coach of the Year went to Illinois head man John Groce, and Midseason Defensive Player of the Year goes to Kansas 7-footer Jeff Withey. CBS goes as far as to say Withey is this year’s Anthony Davis (with two eyebrows).   Nerlens Noel makes an appearance in the Midseason All-Freshman team. Here’s what they said about him: He hasn’t been as dominant as Anthony Davis, but Noel has still been effective — especially on the defensive end. He’s averaging 10.1 points and 9.6 rebounds, and he has blocked 49 shots in 14 games.   The Kentucky Wildcats team makes an appearance as the “Most Underrated Team”. Here’s what CBS thinks of the ‘Cats: The Wildcats have four losses and aren’t in the Top 25, but there aren’t 10 teams in the nation with a better shot to win a national title. In other words, UK’s résumé is just OK. But UK’s ceiling is really, really high. John Calipari’s team will compete for the SEC title, and they just might win it.   While there’s not any true significance to these “awards”, it’s good to know that some unbiased opinions of the ‘Cats are also being shared with the BBN. Note that CBS says there are not 10 teams in the nation with a better shot to win the national title than Kentucky. However, John Calipari recently stated he believes 30-40 teams could make a run to the Final Four. Right now, his team isn’t one of them. They could be in March, though.
