The saga that has become the Troy Williams recruiting story has taken once again a twist that, to use a cliche, “comes out of left field”, or since this is basketball, comes out of the left scoreboard or left locker room. The 6’6″ small forward, who is going to play at Oak Hill Academy his senior year, but is from Hampton, Va. is now talking about being a package deal with another hoop star from the same city, point guard Anthony “Cat” Barber, to either play for Louisville or Alabama. So much for Carolina and/or Kentucky being his leaders even when he reopened his recruiting. Barber said this about the possibility of this happening…

“We talk if I don’t go to Kansas, if I go to Alabama, he gonna go there. If I go to Louisville, he gonna go there just because he like playing with me and I like playing with him, too. But we haven’t decided nothing yet.”

So, basically the one snag in this “package deal” would be if Barber picked Kansas, but other than that from reading around the internet this seems to be the “flavor of the week” when it comes to what the young man is going to do for what should be his only year in college. Personally, after all the twists and turns that have gone along with the recruiting of the forward, I am taking the attitude that if Troy Williams is enrolled at UNC come time for the 2013 fall semester then I know he will play for head coach Roy Williams, if not then I know he won’t be part of the North Carolina Basketball program. But I will admit that I am not sure that I would have ever thought that his recruiting would have gone like this, even if he is a youngster, with an uncle like legendary AAU coach Boo Williams I would have figured all these changes would not have happened. Secondly, after all that has gone on, I am pretty sure he won’t be in Chapel Hill and I am not too broken up about it, since this drama is the last thing that is needed for any program.
