ESPN College GameDay picked the right game to feature this week as Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center gave us the game of the regular season. Notre Dame vs Louisville on Saturday night was a 5 OT masterpiece won by ND 104-101. This was reminiscent of the 6 OT Big East Tournament game between UConn and Syracuse. Contests like these make me sad that this is a soon to be defunct conference. This was easily the college basketball game of the year.
The Fighting Irish won a game they had no business winning. Their star Jack Cooley missed the last 30 minutes, and at the end of regulation you had a boring low scoring 60-60 game in which nobody could shoot. This was the second time in school history that Notre Dame has been the host for College GameDay during the basketball season. Purcell Pavilion was the site of the morning show and primetime basketball contest on Jan. 24, 2009, when the Irish played Connecticut.
Coupled with visits for football, next month’s College GameDay broadcast w...

Highlights From the Epic Five Overtime Louisville vs. Notre Dame Basketball Game
Louisville and Notre Dame should just agree to start their basketball games in overtime. For the sixth time in their last eight meetings, they couldn’t settle the outcome in regulation. But for the first time in the history of either program, they needed five overtimes to determine the winner. The Fighting Irish finally emerged with a 104-101 victory over the No. 12 Cardinals,...
Notre Dame Student Hits Half-Court Shot, Wins $18,000
ESPN’s College GameDay has a challenge sponsored by State Farm: hit a half court shot within 18 seconds, win $18,000. Seems simple enough, especially considering it’s not an in-game showcase, but rather in front of a handful of fellow students, the men’s basketball team, and some guy wearing a bunny hat. Still, only two participants had made the shot — until today. Notre...
Notre Dame Fails At College Gameday; Good Job, Good Effort
Hosting ESPN’s College Gameday is a privilege. Not all teams are fortunate enough to host the Gameday crew each season. Louisville can attest to that. Despite having the newest and nicest arena in college basketball, Gameday has yet to make the trip to the Yum! Center in its three year existence. Shame on you, Notre Dame. On a morning where you’re supposed to represent for your...

It is about this exact time in February when the sports world starts to shift their focus from football of all sorts, to basketball of all sorts. The #25 Irish took #10 Louisville to 5 overtimes and finally closed the deal 104-101. The game clocked in...

Fighting Irish Win Five-OT Marathon Game
Remember back when you played little league ball and the coaches actually made a point to make sure everyone played? You know how that logic pretty much fell by the wayside by time you got to high school?
As for college--forget about it! It's all about winning first, and playing time second (a distant second).
Saturday night that wasn't the case for Notre Dame or Lousville...

Ariel Braker matched her career high with 15 points and Natalie Achonwa added 11 points and nine rebounds to help No. 2 Notre Dame beat Seton Hall 69-50 on Saturday for the Irish's 17th straight victory.

Manti Te'o: How Far Does He Slide in the 2013 NFL Draft
The biggest question leading into the NFL Draft surrounds the likely drop in stock of former Notre Dame linebacker, Manti Te'o. Entering the NCAA title game vs. Alabama, it was widely rumored he would be in the top five, if not the top pick overall. Today, mock drafts have him going anywhere from the top 10 to slipping into the 2nd round. The first portion of this debate should...

Whatever it Takes
Notre Dame played nearly two games over the weekend, and however thrilling, the victory counted just once in the Big East standings. But the momentum gained from the gut-check thriller should prove invaluable for a 19-5 squad, not to mention its previously struggling swingman who helped bring home the win through 56 grueling minutes and myriad defensive assignments.
Here's the end of the ND / Louisville game and the end of each OT period
By now you've heard -- Notre Dame beat Louisville yesterday, 104-101, in 5 overtimes. Regulation ended with the score tied at an amazing 60-60. Here's that finish.
